The estate is located in the village of Gundheim (Wonnegau area) in the Rheinhessen wine growing region in Germany. Gerhard Gutzler took over at the helm of the old family estate in 1985. He aims to produce wines that express their origins and varietal characteristics in an elegant and harmonious manner. The vineyard area totals 12,5 hectares, with holdings in some famous vineyard sites, like Morstein and Rotenstein (Westhofen), R?x00F6;merberg (Dorn D?x00FC;rkheim), Sonnenberg (Gundheim), ?x00D6;lberg (Nierstein), as well as in the Liebfrauenstift Kirchenst?x00FC;ck (Worms).
Grape varieties planted are Pinot Noir (3,8 ha), Riesling (3,2 ha), Pinot Blanc (0,7 ha), Portugieser (0,7 ha), Pinot Gris (0,6 ha), Silvaner (0,6 ha), Sauvignon Blanc (0,5 ha) and Dornfelder (0,2 ha). With the exception of the sweet botrytis predicate wines, all other wines are fermented dry.
In order to retain the freshness and fruit, white wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, with the exception of some heavy wines, which are matured in barrique. Red wines undergo traditional fermentation on the skins, and are then matured either in traditional oak vats or in barriques.
The estate has been a member of the VDP (Verband deutscher Pr?x00E4;dikatsWeing?x00FC;ter) association since 2006.
